Mrs. Harriet Buttram

Mrs. Harriet Buttram, mother of W.W. Buttram of this city, died at the home of her son Thursday evening of last week, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Buttram was one of the early settlers of Kansas, having come to Johnson county in the early Fifties. Harriet Amelia Kerbaugh was born near Greenville, Tennessee July 23, 1822, and was 75 years, two months and three days old at the time of her death. At the age of nine years she moved with her parents to New Madrid, Mo., where two years later her father died. The following year with her mother, brother and sister she come [sic] to western Missouri and settled at Independence. In 1837 she was united in marriage to Moses Blythe, who died in 1851. Two years later she became the wife of Jacob Buttram at Westport, Mo. She was permitted to enjoy the companionship of Mr. Buttram about eight years, when he was called to the Eternal Home on High. Shortly after her marriage to Mr. Buttram they moved to Johnson county, Kan. Two years after the death of Mr. Buttram she married Lewis Wyatt with whom she lived until his death in 1895. Since the death of Mr. Wyatt she has made her home with her son, W.W. Buttram, in this city. She raised a family of ten children, seven by Mr. Blythe and three by Mr. Buttram. Only two of her children survive her, Mrs. White, of Boulder, Colo., and W.W. Buttram of this city. Mrs. Buttram united with the M.E. church early in life and lived a faithful christian life. She was a kind and affectionate mother and a good neighbor. The funeral services were held from the home last Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. B.F. Dice, pastor of the M.E. church in this city, after which interment was made in the Edgerton cemetery.

Beside the son and daughter Mrs. Buttram is survived by an only sister, Mrs. Adaline Stewart of Amarilla, [sic] Texas, and numerous other relatives, and friends to mourn her loss.
